What We Do Works, For Real!

We often get told that our work is beautiful, creative and unique to the client. We get thank yous and develop friendships with our clients. We are told that they get a positive response from customers, students, etc. and our clients come back to us for future projects, and here, on bloggy, we have some hard evidence that what we do works. It was for the Marlboro College Graduate School logo, website, and marketing material. (You can check our work out here : www.gradschool.marlboro.edu)

Well here it is. CSI status. THE evidence:

Marlboro College Graduate School worked with Woodwardesign to re-brand its print and online materials. One of the primary goals of the new collateral was to drive more traffic to the web. In the 15-month time span following completion of the work, traffic to the web site from new visitors doubled; while both the fall 2010 and winter 2011 intakes experienced their best enrollments in 5 years.

“We conducted a lengthy RFP evaluation before ultimately selecting Woodward. We liked their aesthetic, we liked their process, and we just plain liked them.”

—Chris Lenois, Director of Marketing, Marlboro College

New Years Resolution

Here we are. A new year. The time when we all say, “I'm going to lose some weight,” “I’m going to get more organized.”. . . yada, yada, yada. Well, here at Woodwardesign, our new year’s resolution is to pay more attention to our neglected child . . . . our blog.

Poor blog . . . such a good little blog. So, THIS year we are going to blog more so we can keep in touch. Here it is. The first blog of the year. Enjoy, our friends!

Everyone around here has gotten the exercise bug. Jeff and Falyn have begun spinning and Carrie is now a certified Zumba instructor. It really has lifted the mood around the office. And we feel less guilty eating Twix bars.

We have teamed up with a few people who are into fitness as well.

We developed a new logo for Durga Fitness. Durga’s owner, Zephyr Soun, is a personal trainer who also teaches group bootcamp and spin classes. Durga means “the invincible one” and is depicted by a goddess. With this logo we created a goddess form with two different colors intertwining to represent the energy of trainer and client working together—something that’s a big part of Zephyr’s work.

You can check out the website we designed at www.durgafitness.com

Another company we paired up with was Sprockets Cycle Studio in Bellows Falls. Owner, Joanna Albright, already had a logo and color palette but needed a simple website.

We worked with their current look and budget and created an easy-to-navigate and attractive sight.

Cheers to health and blogging!

Wicked Sweet Logos

Hey everyone!

It’s been a while and that’s because we’ve been working hard on a number of projects including these exciting logos.

The North Hartland Tool Corporation is growing like crazy and needed to up their game, with a new logo, identity, and website (nhtool.com.) This logo symbolizes the company’s attention to detail and quality. They partner with other companies and the logo illustrates this partnership by having a gear within a gear within a gear.

Bodhifit is a sweet new company whose focus is spin and yoga classes. We did all their identity including logos, business cards, signage and website that will be ready to launch this summer. This logo symbolizes movement, strength and power. (bodhifit.net) One of the owners loves the logo so much, he had it tattooed on his arm.

We also redesigned the identity for the Nature Museum in Grafton, VT. We had the opportunity to design the original logo six years ago and now the update. The redesign is fun and creates a sense of movement that engages people to be alive with learning.

Along with designing The Nature Museum materials we had the opportunity to design the Pale Blue Dot event materials for them.

Pale Blue Dot was a first-time museum event named after late astronomer Carl Sagan's description of the Earth upon his seeing a photograph of the planet taken by the crew of Voyager 1.

The design engages people to think about their relationship to the natural world and its resources.

We’re also currently working on a logo, stationery, and signage for Vermont Artisan Designs in downtown Brattleboro. It hasn’t gone public yet, but we’ll be sure to show it to you when it does.

We hope you’re having a great, relaxing and creative summer!

Putney School Annual Report

We recently finished a redesign of The Putney School’s 2009 annual report.
For the first time, the annual report was done online rather than being printed.

For the past three years we’ve designed the printed version. This year, it was
important to The Putney School to cut down on postage costs and leave less of a
footprint on the planet. An online annual report was the solution.

The online design keeps the same clean, beautiful design of The Putney
School brand. The animation has smooth, graceful transitions and
numerous photos of activities throughout the past year.

We created two versions of the Annual Report: one for the general
public and one for alumni. The alumni version, which lists all the donors
and has a search function to find donor names quickly, is password protected
and non-searchable by the general public (and nasty webcrawlers).

It was a fun project that not only saved Putney a significant amount
on postage and printing, but also benefitted the planet as well.

We Graduated

It is back to school time and for the students going back to Marlboro College Graduate Center, things have changed.

It is no longer the Graduate Center but the Graduate School. And, with a new name comes a new look.

We worked with a wonderful team on the school’s rebranding process. After a thorough research process, including focus groups with various audiences, conversations with a number of stakeholders, and competitor research, we presented a design direction brief based on all that we’d learned.

We discovered that it was important for the Graduate School to be connected with the better-known undergraduate school, Marlboro College, but to have its own identity. We considered several ways of doing this—font usage, color choice, and variations of the undergraduate logo. We decided to use the same font for the words Marlboro College as the undergraduate uses, use a san serif font that is used in the undergraduate viewbook (we were also able to design that!), and use a similar color palette.

This provided the connection we wanted. Then it was time to create a mark that was strictly for the Graduate School. We presented about 10 options and two rose to the top. After careful consideration they selected the finalist.

The logo represents both the undergraduate and graduate schools. The small house on the left symbolizes the undergraduate campus, and the large building on the right indicates the Graduate School building in downtown Brattleboro. It can also be interpreted as “graduating” from one school to the next, or even taking the next step in your life. How do you interpret it?

Once we were finished with the logo process, it was time to give the logo a home. We proceeded to layout their business cards, letterhead, envelopes, marketing brochures, and trade show booth. We also were able to give it a home where many people world-wide would be able to view it.

We designed their new website. This also involved a lot of research into usability and functionality with a number of user audiences. The end result is a visually beautiful site that is logically organized and easy to navigate. What a great opportunity to work on such a fun project for a wonderful school!

Let's Integrate

Hello again!

We have been working hard on a number of projects and this particular one is really exciting to share.

For over a year we’ve been working with a renewable energy company called Integrated Solar here in Brattleboro, Vermont. They are fun to work with and we believe in what they are doing.

This is the logo we created for them when we first started our relationship. It symbolizes renewing, recycling, and the elements. They design and install all kinds of renewable energy systems and needed something that illustrated that.

We also designed icons for the systems that they offer. This helps further their brand recognizability and provides the customer with a visual for what the system is.

But this, this is the new and exciting project that we just finished! It is the Integrated Solar website. We incorporated their icons and color palette into a fun and usable sight. Check it out!
